The T-34 was the most widely-produced tank in the Soviet arsenal during World War II. The advent of the more heavily armored Tiger and Panther tanks of the German army forced the Soviets to seek a more powerful gun for their own tanks. The T-34′s original 76mm gun was replaced with a more powerful 85mm tank gun, and the legendary T-34/85 was born.
